Panama opens spaces for women and young people to undertake in the technology sector

Panama, Nov 17 (EFE) .- Providing tools and training women and young people who manage the technological field to develop new ideas is the task that seeks to complement the Authority of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (Ampyme) of Panama, said its director María Celia Dopeso to Efe.

"We want to guide this group on fundamental issues, provide them with business plans and consolidated models, thus ensuring the success of their companies oriented to that sector, "said Dopeso during a forum held as part of the activities of the Global Week of Entrepreneurship (GEW, for its acronym in English).

The representative of Ampyme said that the institution has launched several programs aimed at that problacional group, which will be strengthened with the new national policy "Panama Emprende y Crece".

Although he did not specify the ideas generated in the technological field, he said that the institution measures youth projects through of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (global monitor of entrepreneurship) or GEM in conjunction with the City of Knowledge, a center for science and culture, education and innovation.

"In 2016 the monitor showed that the early entrepreneurship was 13.2% and those that were sustained in a time of 42 months was 4.4%. we encourage society, "he said.

It is estimated that there are approximately 600,000 micro and SME companies in the country, according to available data.

The owner of the institution participated since last Monday in a series of workshops, panels, conferences, training as part of the agenda of the Global Week of Entrepreneurship, which ends tomorrow in Panama with a business festival.

The tenth version of the event seeks to position the country as a reference space for people to get advice and have knowledge for execute business projects.

The initiative was born in 2008 by the Kauffman Foundation and is considered as the celebration of the innovators and creators of employment more world's largest, being held simultaneously in more than 160 participating nations.

Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic they have aligned their entrepreneurial development activities to give a message of unity of the ecosystem of support of the region, a coordinated effort by the Regional Center for the Promotion of the Micro and Small Business (Cenpromype), a specialized entity of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
